Name this structure
About this practice mode
Each question shows a skeletal structure and four names. Exactly one is the correct IUPAC name. Every wrong name was chosen to test one rule, and each was checked with the OPSIN name parser: either it describes a different compound, which is then shown next to the structure, or it describes the same molecule but breaks a naming rule, such as numbering from the wrong end or putting prefixes in the wrong order.
After the right answer, the explanation goes through the name step by step. To practice the other way around, read a name and draw its structure. The naming rules are summarized in IUPAC naming rules. Your progress is stored only in this browser.
One structure a day, the same for everyone: try the daily molecule.
